- We’re in the business of managing music and managing expectations. It’s not about finding new music, we’ve got enough music.
- The Artist Developer is key to monetizing acts for music labels, not the manager
- EMI is smart doing the Robbie Williams deal: EMI has a part in the Robbie Williams ‘corporation’ and do not get involved in merchandise etc. They exchange money and knowledge for a piece of the business
- SonyBMG still invest @125M a year in A&R within Europe, because there still is enough new music to be found and developed
- The 360 Degrees Contract allows us to help develop acts as good as possible
- The music industries most important person currently is the artist manager
- An act can more easliy afford to manage their business than in the past, label record companies come in later
- the problem with a label being the major investor in a band is that their focus is to narrow. Artist managers have a wider focus
- Ticket prices for small shows are still at grass roots level, and have not increased much
- Perhaps the EasyJet-model should be applied to ticket prices: make ticket price dependant on time of purchase (the earlier, the cheaper)
- When major labels offer 360 Degrees Deals they ask for slices of merchandise etc, but actually do not understand what their asking for
- We are very accurate in setting the right prices for tickets in relation to the demand for that particular act
- 360 degrees deals represent a better chance for artists, labels and managers to spread the investments and benefits
Eric van Eerdenburg (directeur Lowlands):
- Ticket prices for festivals are reaching the end of the rope. Price get so high that younger audiences can no longer participate because they haven’t got the money
- Secondary ticketing (verkoop van kaarten buiten de reguliere verkoop om) is a handicap, but maybe only for the big, expensive acts
